At Bus Stop, we believe in the power of theatre and circus to transform, enrich and empower people of all ages and backgrounds. We believe in the power of story and that everyone is a storyteller. And by tapping into that storyteller, we learn and make sense of the world.
Who we are:
We are theatre and circus professionals with combined industry experience of more than 40 years. Zoe Houghton studied at the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and has appeared in film, television and on the stage. Tamsin McGuin co-founded Circus Minimus and was instrumental in the establishment of several of Australia's premier circus companies.
We specialise in:
- engaging with communities and young people, utilising the art forms of drama and circus to break down language and cultural barriers
- developing relationships with communities both urban and remote. We have a proven track record of working with and relationship-building (over 5 years) with Indigenous communities in several areas. In Arnhem Land, we have developed a close relationship with the Yolngu people, including community leaders and elders. We also have a history of successful outcomes with disadvantaged and at-risk youth and adults
- our approach is based on the principles of respect and dignity; the resulting work is authentic to place and people, transcends cultural, physical and language barriers. It is work of the heart. We believe in JOY.
- the essence of our work is based in the power of drama, circus and performance to change lives, improve outcomes, empower individuals and communities and provide outlets of expression, creativity and story
- we believe in true collaboration with communities, and leaving behind evidence, both tangible and intangible, in the form of creative legacies and tools such as costumes and equipment
